Delta Air Lines has invested in UGA, its people and its programs for more than 42 years, with its most recent support helping establish a permanent presence for UGA in Washington, D.C.
“The Delta Air Lines Foundation is proud to support the University of Georgia as it expands its reach and provides educational tools and resources to its global student population. Through the new facility in Washington, D.C., we aim to increase exposure for UGA and create a place where students can prosper.”
Ted Hutcheson | Vice President of Community Affairs | Delta Air Lines
For more than 42 years, Delta Air Lines and Delta Air Lines Foundation, headquartered in Atlanta, have been a valued partner of the University of Georgia. More than $6.2 million in financial support has been provided by the company, and Delta employees have led to $7,700 in matching gifts to UGA since 2011. Delta has provided in-kind donations to a variety of units on campus and the company is a leading employer of UGA graduates, landing in the top 25 for the Class of 2015.
In 2015, the Delta Air Lines Foundation pledged $5 million to UGA to establish a residential learning community in support of UGA’s programs in the capital – the Washington Semester Program, Honors in Washington and the Congressional Agricultural Fellowship Program. The facility is named Delta Hall and there is a recognition area in UGA’s student center on campus that features an arrangement of photographs and artistic works of the building.
Residing in Delta Hall fully exposes students to DC life. The three-story, 20,000-square-foot facility is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, just minutes from the Capitol, Senate and House office buildings, and The Supreme Court, Library of Congress and the National Mall. All undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the program, and each must participate in two courses and one internship while in D.C. There is a full-time staff member living on site who also supports the university’s federal affairs work in the city.
“Delta Air Lines has been a strong corporate partner of the University of Georgia for many years, and this latest gift (Delta Hall in Washington, D.C.) demonstrates the leadership role Delta is taking in our ongoing comprehensive campaign to advance the University of Georgia.”
Jere W. Morehead | President | University of Georgia
Delta’s support in Washington, D.C., is a win for both the University of Georgia and Delta. UGA now boasts a permanent physical presence in the policymaking capital of the country. Its students are benefiting from real-world experience with some of America’s most influential leaders. And Delta is able to leverage the naming opportunity on campus, in Washington and in the media to educate the public about its goodwill efforts to support higher education.
