Leading beverage producer provides $1 million to enhance scholarship support for UGA students who are the first in their families to attend college.
“It is our pleasure to provide the University of Georgia with this grant for the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship program. We have seen the transformative difference education makes in the lives of students who are the first in their families to attend college and are proud to continue support for this program.”
Lori Billingsley | Vice President of Community Relations | Coca-Cola North America
Through its scholarship programs, the Coca-Cola System annually awards more than 1,400 students with scholarships totaling $3.4 million. One of those scholarships is the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship, which supports academically outstanding students who are the first in their families to attend college.
The $5,000 scholarship is available for a total of four years if each recipient maintains certain academic standards. In addition, students receive support services to help them adjust to college life and ensure they have the academic, cultural and financial support throughout their undergraduate experience. Since 2007, the Coca-Cola Foundation has provided a Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship to 126 UGA students. In 2015, it continued support for this program by making an additional $1 million gift.
“We are immensely grateful for the continued support of one of our state’s pre-eminent corporate partners. Coca-Cola’s generosity is providing vital support for deserving students from Georgia who are seeking to become the first in their families to earn a college degree.”
Jere W. Morehead | President | University of Georgia
The First Generation Scholars Program is but one of many way that Coca-Cola has committed its support to the University of Georgia. It is a consistent top 25 employer of UGA graduates and is the home of a UGA Alumni Corporate Chapter. Through this scholarship, though, the world’s leading beverage producer directly improves the lives of young people and helps the UGA redirect the trajectory of those students’ futures – and those around them.
